The Princess & the Palm Wine Tapper by IWUALA Vivian Chioma (7yrs)

This book is dedicated to the Almighty God for his grace and my teacher Miss Chinyere Walieze for her assistance in making sure this project comes to accomplishment.


CHAPTER ONE
          Once upon a time, there lived a boy called Ikem. Ikem’s father was a palm-wine tapper so his father died a long time ago. It was only his mother that was training him. But, he did not know anything because he did not go to school. He was an illiterate, his father’s brother Kane collected everything his father left for him. They maltreated ikem’s mother like a slave in her in-law’s house. Anything that the mother does will always pain or annoy them but Nneka Ikem’s mother was a God fearing woman, because of that Ikem’s friends always course and insult him because he do not have a
father and do not go to school, each time he sees his mate going to school, he remember his father and always go disturbing his mother that he want to go to school and become something in life. So his mother always tell him that God’s time is the best and his mother advise him and the little money she had she will use them to buy textbooks for her son Ikem. Ikems father alwaysappear to him in his dream and when he is awake he advise him and tell him that he will soon see him again and the Lord will provide and guild him anywhere he go to. One day as Ikem was alone walking and his father appeared again to him and gave him a magic necklace for protection. He told him that anywhere he is going to he should put it on that he should not forget it at home. Ikem woke up, he praied and told his mother what he dreamt about and his mother told him to be always prayerful.
Then next day when the mother was going to the   farm she heard a voice telling her to be careful that dangerous are at the bus that let her send her son but she refused so as she was weeding the grass, snake from the bush bit her on her leg and she was shouting, nobody was in the farm so she remembered what that strange voice told her. So she cut some materials from her cloth and tired it on her leg where she was bitten by the snake.
As she was shouting, she later saw somebody and told the person to go to her house and call her son so the person went and called her son so her son ran and saw his mother and helped her to the sick bay  because there was nothing like hospital she stayed there for one week when it was time for them to discharge her there was no money to pay for the hospital bill so Ikem went and begged his uncle, the next day he went to his senior uncle and begged him but his uncle was mad at him and flogged him out of his house. It was on the cause that ikem finally went to a friend and his mother was discharged.


CHAPTER TWO.
          There was a kingdom in Ikem’s village named Akara, in Akara village there lived a king named Daniel, King Daniel was known as a very kind man, he was trusted by the people, he was a man of his words, he had an Onuwu that supply him Palm wine  because his best drink is palm wine. As Ikem heard that the King Daniel’s best drink was Palm wine, so he decided to become a palm wine tapper. Ikem was a very good palm wine tapper so as the king heard it, Ikem started supplying the kind with palm wine to drink and the king enjoyed the palm wine of Ikem.
So Ikem also started supplying palm wine to the market which was generally loved by all, they always drag the palm wine which was produced by Ikem. One day ikem brought the palm wine, they did not even allow him to come down because they were all waiting for him, as he wanted to come down they rushed it and that palm wine led ;to fight and they all fought and fought. So as Ikem wanted to separate  them by mistake they hit Ikem on his eyes and Ikem shouted, they took Ikem to the hospital, the hospital bill was too much but she hocked out the money and Ikem became well and strong.
Ikem went home and was crying but his mother told him they will get money and pay school fees. Ikem’s mother always gave Ikem home work to do and Ikem do the assignment and do the order chores but before Ikem’s mother will return he has already finished everything both the assignment, chores etc. which always make Ikem’s mother to be thankful to her son Ikem. All the assignments, and home chore does not stop Ikem from selling his palm wine. Rather he sells his palm wine and also have time for other good things.
One day, one of his father’s friend came to Ikem and told him that he want him to go to school, Ikem’s father’s friend’s name was Emeka. Emeka now registered him in one of the schools that was writing scholarship exam and Ikem participated and after writing the exam Ikem was happy about himself. After two weeks the result came out and Emeka found out the Ikem took first in the television where the result was announced. Ikem and his mother  was very happy and both started shading  tears of joy. Later her mother congratulated him and blessed him but there was no money to buy text book and they forgot about the scholarship.



CHAPTER THREE
Upon the hardship  Ikems mother did all she could do in orde to send Ikem to school. The next day Ikem’s mother told him to do all the house chores. And gave him some assignment to do till when she will be back. Ikem fetched some water in the stream, people cursed Ikem that he do not have any sister that can go out to fetch water for the house .
At night Ikems’s mother asked of the assignment and told him to bring the lantern in order for them to see, his mother was impressed in his performance. The next djay, he saw Emeka, Ikem asked him how was his night and Emeka also asked him how  he was fairing. They were talking and Emeka gave him some money and Ikem thanked him so much and told him that  he is blessed.
In Akara Village, king Daniel had a daughter that was in the UK since her childhood. So she came back when she was fully grown and in there tradition, whenever the princess or the prince is coming back they will blow whistle and that was what they did for princess Adaugo when princess Adaugo was going to the palace she saw Ikem in the tree of palm wine and the palace guards ask him to greet, that it was the princess of Akara village. So Ikem started greeting in different form and it was very funny and the princess of Akara liked funny people like Ikem. But do you know the worst part, is that Ikem only know how to speak his language and he was looking for a person that will teach him English but no one could help him. The princess did not know what Ikem was speaking because she had been in the UK since her childhood.
So as the king heard that his duagter Adaugo has entered town so he ordered the palace guards to kill one big cow and also ask the maiden to prepare a very delicious meal with the cow that was killed by the guards. As princess Adaugo has reached the gate of the palace and everybody was so excited and Adaugo came down and she hugged her parent and she also hugged the elders and the maidens and the guards, so they went inside  and she ate, refreshed her body and slept in her room. The King of Akara was so excited that he couldn’t hold his excitement.



CHAPTER FOUR
There was another palace named Nzeala, in Nzeala kingdom. There lived a prince named Karries, Karries was the only son of his parent so his parent decided to bring a princess for him to marry and not any other stranger who do not have relation to royalty.
The king of Nzeala remembered King Daniel in Akara kingdom he remembered that his daughter Adaugo was back so the next day he went yo Akara village and told King Daniel his mission to the palace and Kind Daniel said that let him come back with his son Karries that Princess Adaugo was not around. When the Onuowu found out that there was another person selling palm wine for the king he made sure that he found out the person so he was still investigating the matter with the palace guards, and when he found out that it was Ikem so he started treating Ikem and told him to stop selling palm wine to the king that it was only his one that brings melody and speaks to the kings heart.
The next day, the king of Nzeala came to Akara village with his son Karris and princess Adaugo was not around so king Daniel sent two of his guards to check where she was went to, and they found out that she went to Ikem’s house and came to buy palm wine. So as the guards saw her, they told her that her father was looking for her. Then the guards carried her to the palace and princess Adaugo saw Karris. So she wondered who was  in the palace with her dad. So as she went inside and saw prince Karris with his father and greeted them. The father asked  her to sit down and they used parable to talk some certain things. As they finished prince Karris said that he want to talk to her privately and they allowed them.  Prince Karris proposed to her and she thought it was a joke. Then Prince Karris started making her angry with his words.  Princes Karris was too proud of himself and full of abusive words which is one of the things princess Adaugo hate so much. Adaugo had to walk out of him, prince Karris was calling her but she snubbed him because he was so annoying, disrespectful, hot tempered and disobedience.



CHAPTER FIVE
There was a friend to Ikem’s father who was still alive. So Favour was kind and helping so he pitted Ikem because Ikem  did not go to school, so he called Ikem and asked Ikem whether he want to go to school and Ikem said yes and the man was proud of him so he went and discussed this with Ikem’s mother and Ikem’s  mother also agreed. The next day as Ikem reached school with Mr. Favour they went to the principal’s office and paid the money to him, the teacher saw him and was happy to see him, he went to his class and he met his classmates. Some were not happy with Ikem and some were gossiping him that he was too old to be in primary three. Ikem met one boy called Nduka, Nduka was tall and dark in complexion and was very intelligent. Nduka usually come second in position. He had  father and mother with a sister. Ikem ask where he can sit down and Nduka directed Ikem to where he was sitting. Ikem collected Nduka’s notes, copied everything they have studied earlier and was happy.
So Ikem’s performance was good. Ikem was good at asking and answering question . so the term ran fast and Ikem learn how to speak good English and his mother and princess Adaugo was very happy. Ikem finished primary school and was perfect.
Ikem contued life and he was prepared for entrance examination. Ikem finished and passed the exams. Ikem completed his secondary school and study Law in the University. Ikem graduated and became a lawyer but his mind was still in palm wine because he uses palm wine to remember his father. So Ikem employed people that will work in his office as a lawyer and went to the village as a palm wine tapper, so that he can look for a wife then go back to the city and continue his work. As he went to the village he was at his house when princess Adaugo came and kept him company that was how princess Adaugo always keep him company when his mother was sick it was Adaugo that kept her company till when he came back.



CHAPTER SIX
When Ikem came back he was how his mother was doing and she was doing very well and Ikem thanked Princess Adaudo and the next day Ikem proposed to princess Adaugo and she accepted. When she reached her palace, they asked her where she was coming from and she told them and they were angry with her.
The next day she told her father and her father told her that since is her choice, he do not have the right to oppose her and assured her of his blessings.
Then Princess Adaugo went and told Ikem and both agreed and then next week they fixed their wedding and their wedding was rich and sweet. On their wedding day, musicians from different places came for the wedding. After their weding, they gave birth to a bouncing baby boy, they lived happily, cared and educated their children.
